Dubai will host two new B2B exhibitions from January 10

The four-day debut shows, starting from January 10, are Wire & Cable Arabia and Metal Middle East. The 12th edition of ArabPlast will also start during the same period.

Dubai will host two new industry-dedicated exhibitions next week for the first time in the Middle East, organiser Al Fajer Information Services announced on Wednesday during two separate news conferences.

The four-day debut shows, starting from January 10, are Wire & Cable Arabia and Metal Middle East. The 12th edition of ArabPlast will also start during the same period.

Al Fajer Information and Services, Messe Dusseldorf and Germany's Messe Essen are all set to host three companion shows — the inaugural Metal Middle East, the fifth Tube Arabia show and the second Arabia Essen Welding & Cutting exhibition — at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC), from January 10 to 13, 2015.

Announcing the trio of exhibitions at a news conference, the organisers gave a comprehensive overview of the Gulf metal, tubes and welding industries, highlighting key strengths as well as challenges both locally and regionally.

The press conference was addressed by Satish Khanna, general manager, Al Fajer Information and Services; Daniel Ryfisch, project manager, Messe Dusseldorf; and Julia Wermter, project manager, Messe Essen.

The debut edition of Metal Middle East, the only specialised event of its kind in the Middle East, will serve as a platform for companies to tap the regional market. Khanna said that the three industrial exhibitions will be spread over an area of 5,000sqm in DICEC.

He added: "Consumption of steel in the GCC has been underpinned by significant investments in the construction sectors of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Estimates show that the GCC's awarded projects jumped to $1.35 trillion by the end of 2013."

Wire & Cable Arabia

The GCC consumption of wires and cables reached 1.3 million gross cable tonnes in 2013, an increase of 69 per cent compared to 400,000 tonnes in 2003, driven mainly by the utility and communications network in the UAE and the wider Gulf. These figures were released in connection with the announcement of the debut international trade fair for wire and cable industry.

Khanna said: "In the GCC countries, the ongoing construction boom has spurred the demand for energy cables used in residential, commercial and industrial construction, as well as in expansion of utility networks. Wire & Cable 2015 has attracted diverse international and regional companies that will display latest technologies and solutions pertaining to this fast growing industry."

Ashish Chaturvedy, marketing manager, Ducab, said: "The cable industry in this region has undergone significant changes of late, making business intelligence and analysis more critical than ever. Our region is seen as one of the most dynamic infrastructure investment markets for regional and global investors."

"As Dubai looks to cement its super-hub status with $32 billion investment through the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central (DWC), Qatar earmarks $140 billion for infrastructure development.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait alike are joining the parade with mammoth investments. All these projects are seen as promising growth opportunities, not only for Ducab, but for our entire industry," added Chaturvedy.

ArabPlast 2015

Organisers of the 12th ArabPlast have said that the petrochemical sector in the GCC saw an overall growth of about 11 per cent (CAGR) over the past 10 years, driven by enhanced capacities across all major sub-sectors.

During the press conference, the first industry white paper was unveiled by Frost Sullivan exclusively for ArabPlast 2015 under the title 'The GCC Petrochemicals Industry, History, Current Trends, and Future Opportunities'.

According to the white paper, a decade ago, the GCC accounted for about 11 per cent of the total petrochemicals capacity in the world. Today, the capacity has doubled, making the GCC a major supplier through the presence of several major global chemical companies.
