About Askern UK Ltd, Cable Drums & Packaging

Askern UK Ltd is one of the largest manufacturers of softwood cable drums, cable reels and drums in Europe. We have 3 manufacturing sites producing softwood drums, plywood reels and cardboard reels. Our site in Doncaster also manufactures fence panels which together with associated products are supplied to trade and retail.
Askern (Doncaster)

Our largest factory is situated on a 60 acre site in Askern on the A19 near Doncaster and is ideally situated for the motorway network, with easy access to the M62 and A1. Our full range of products is manufactured at Askern.

Askern UK Ltd is unique in that most of the component parts are also manufactured at this site, giving us the advantage of being self sufficient and reducing costs and lead times.
Birtley (County Durham)

This site predominantly manufactures softwood drums and provides a drum maintenance service to local customers.
Glenrothes (Fife)

This site serves as an assembly and distribution outlet to our Scottish customers.
Quality Management

Askern UK Ltd operates an internal quality management system, where raw materials, manufacturing processes and products are constantly monitored to ensure high standards of quality are maintained. The in house manufacture of all component parts enables us to have control of the supply chain guaranteeing continuity of supply and cost savings to our customers.
Environmental Policy

Askern UK Ltd ensures that all our business activities and production processes are consistent with environmental policies. This is implemented throughout the company with employees contributing to its preservation.

Internally, all waste products resulting from our production processes are recycled, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the Company...
Future Developments

The Company plans to construct a new £4 million purpose built factory complex on site at Askern in the near future.

This factory will aim to be carbon neutral in line with Company policy.

History of the Cable Reel

Askern UK Limited has come a long way from it's humble beginnings in 1947 supplying timber to local coal mines. The core business of cable drum manufacturing was developed in the late 1960's and Askern quickly became a major force in the European market.

Ownership of the company has inevitably changed over the years but this has only strengthened the business. Investment and acquisition has seen an expansion into both plywood and cardboard reel manufacturing.

The company returned to private ownership in 2005 and the focus on reputation and reliability is sharper than ever.
