Rod breakdown machine

The production of wire, cores and strands always starts with the drawing of wire rod, no matter if for LAN cables, power cables, circuit board electronics or flexible cables. Wire drawing is an ancient craft. But the processes used in industrial wire manufacturing in the digital age are, of course, worlds apart from the "Schockenzug" and "Leirenzug" drawing irons of the Middle Ages. Today it is ever smaller diameters, high tensile strength and flexibility that dictate requirements in terms of precision and quality – and therefore the requirements to be met by the drawing machines.

1957 to today: Everything starts with the drawing of wire rod on drawing machines from NIEHOFF
The development of the M 854 rod drawing machine in 1957 was one of the biggest milestones in the history of Maschinenfabrik NIEHOFF Schwabach as a manufacturer of wire drawing machines.

This was followed in 1962 by the legendary M 85, which for the first time involved the complete immersion of the drawing dies and the wire in the drawing media during the drawing of the wire. As the first modular drawing machine, it can be individually adapted to the specific requirements of each customer. Following continuous further development it continues to be the biggest selling wire drawing machine for copper wire, aluminum wire and wires made of other non-ferrous metals. 1998 saw the next groundbreaking leap forward in development. With the MSM 85, NIEHOFF introduced the first minimized-slip drawing machine for wire rod with individually driven, electronically controlled capstans.

In 1957, the first NIEHOFF type 854 drawing machine for wire rod: drawing of copper wire at speeds of up to 15 m/s
1962 sees the market launch of the M 85 modular drawing machine; the capstans are completely immersed in the drawing media; drawing of copper wire and aluminum wire initially at speeds of up to 25 m/s, followed later by up to 38 m/s
1998 sees the market launch of the MSM 85 non-slip drawing machine with individually driven and electronically controlled capstans; drawing of copper wire and aluminum wire at speeds of up to 40 m/s
