Southwire Company, LLC

Our Company

Southwire Company, LLC is North America's leading manufacturer of wire and cable used in the distribution and transmission of electricity. Throughout its history, our company has sought to help provide power through our products, our service and by helping empower our customers, employees and communities.

Southwire - Who Are We?

Southwire delivers power to millions of people around the world. Our utility cable and building wire carry electricity to wherever it is needed. One in three new homes built in the United States contains wire made by Southwire.

Southwire leads the industry with innovative products that simplify installation, saving our customers time and money. Southwire has the right wire and cable solution for any commercial, residential, industrial or utility application. If Southwire does not have the solution, we'll design it and make it to order.

Our corporate structure centers around four distinct manufacturing segments—Energy, Electrical, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) and SCR® (Southwire Continuous Rod). Each focuses on a specific group of products and customers.

Our Energy Division sells a full line of low, medium and high-voltage cable products that move power from the generation source to buildings and homes. Customers include investor-owned utilities, rural electric cooperatives, municipalities, contractors and utility distributors.

Our Electrical Division products distribute power inside homes and buildings. Whether it's Romex® brand building wire, copper or aluminum MC, copper AC or flexible, metallic or liquidtight conduit, 600-volt or 24-kilovolt wire, our Electrical Division's products move power exactly where it is needed.

Our OEM Division sells wire and rod to customers who manufacture such products as automobile wiring harnesses, insect screening, transformers, electric motors, HVAC equipment, appliances and industrial equipment.

Our SCR® Technologies Division has been the technological leader in continuous cast copper and aluminum rod manufacturing since the 1960s. More than half of the continuous-casting copper rod capacity in the world uses our technology—which means most of the world's copper wire passes through technology provided by Southwire.

Leadership

We Deliver Power... Responsibly

With thousands of employees across the country, Southwire Company, LLC is North America's leading producer of building wire and utility cable and is a technology leader in the wire and cable industry.

Headquartered in Carrollton, Georgia, the company holds more than 240 patents in 40 countries and is a leading researcher in the development of high-temperature superconducting power cables.

Backed by a network of manufacturing facilities and distribution centers stretching from coast to coast, Southwire operates with the proven philosophy of providing the top quality products in the industry, backed by the best service available.

To reach those goals, Southwire's corporate structure centers around four distinct manufacturing segments - Energy, Electrical, OEM Rod and SCR Technologies. Each focuses on a specific group of customers, ensuring their needs are met quickly and efficiently.

A technology leader, Southwire developed the Southwire Continuous Rod® or SCR, method for casting copper and aluminum rod. Today, half of the world's copper rod is made using theSCR method. More than 70 systems operate in such countries as India, Japan, Russia, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

To ensure its divisions remain competitive, Southwire conducts advanced research at the D.B. Cofer Technology Center. One of the world's leading centers for wire and cable technology, the Cofer center is home to Southwire's superconducting power cable program.

Part power line and part vacuum bottle, Southwire's superconducting cables are nearly immune to resistance, losing only about a half-percent of power during transmission. That compares with 5 to 8 percent lost by traditional power cables. Superconducting cables also deliver more power, about three to five times more power than cables in use today. By powering three of its manufacturing plants with a superconducting power delivery system, Southwire became the first to put superconducting cables to use in an industrial setting.

Southwire's effort to make things easier, both for its customers and those they serve, is a tradition dating back to that very first order Southwire produced more than a half century ago. It's also the company's cornerstone for the next 50 years and beyond. At Southwire, we are committed to offering the best products and service in the wire and cable industry. That's not a sales pitch. It's our promise to you.

Sustainability

DEAR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS,

In 2007, we at Southwire established our vision of corporate sustainability through the introduction of our five pillars—Building Worth, Growing Green, Living Well, Giving Back and Doing Right. Although Southwire has long been committed to operating responsibly, the alignment of our strategic goals to these five pillars broadened our understanding and assessment of what it means to operate our business successfully. In the last seven years, we have enjoyed tremendous growth, despite one of the worst economic downturns in our nation's history. That alone is a testament that we are doing something right.

In this update, we share our progress and challenges of the past two years. Some key highlights include: Southwire was named Georgia Manufacturer of the Year in 2013 by the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Last year Southwire partnered with the University of West Georgia in the implementation of the one-of-a-kind Southwire Sustainable Business Honors Program, which allows students to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in sustainable business in four years.

Through 2013, Southwire's 12 for Life® program graduated 665 students who were at-risk of not completing high school.

Despite falling short of our target of achieving an OSHA Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) of 2.0 by 2012, we have achieved a 45-percent reduction against our 2007 TRIR baseline by finishing 2013 with a TRIR of 2.20. Landfilled waste has been reduced by 77 percent since 2007. Although our more challenging waste streams are yet to be addressed, we remain committed to achieving zero-landfill status by 2017.

Admittedly, there is still much work to be done. However, it is important to celebrate our accomplishments as we look to the future. In early 2014, Southwire took a giant step in our growth initiative by acquiring Coleman Cable. By welcoming the talented and dedicated Coleman team to the Southwire family, we look forward to achieving new levels of growth, innovation and service as we tap into each other's ideas and experiences. Southwire remains committed to our vision of sustainability and the pillars that define it. We also look forward to identifying and achieving our next generation of sustainability goals and objectives as a "new" Southwire.

Sincerely,

Stu Thorn, CEO

History

Our roots extend to 1937, when Roy Richards, then a young 25 year old, started a company to erect power poles. Two years earlier, he had graduated from Georgia Tech. While the promise of jobs paying $80 a month lured 90 percent of his classmates to New York, Richards chose to stay in Carroll County, a commitment he kept even after Southwire grew into a leading player in the wire and cable industry.
