UNE 22510 Cable Code Designation

1st Isolation:

V = Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation.
D = Ethylene propylene (EPR) insulation.
R = Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation

2nd Screens

–Screens for rigid cables:

H = Cables with semiconductor screen on the conductor and on the insulation and individual metal screen.

Safety screens for flexible cables and armored flexible cables:

S1 = Screen of semiconductor mixture extruded on the insulation of each active conductor and drains. rrespondents.
S2 = Semiconductor mixture screen extruded on the set of wired conductors and drains. rrespondents.
H1 = Metal screen placed over the insulation of each active conductor.
0 = Joint metal screen.

3rd Metal protections:

M = Normalized armor of galvanized steel wires.

What is the thermal withstand of a cable ?

The thermal withstand of a cable can be determined by comparing the maximum energy at the fault, with the maximum energy the cable can absorb.  The equation for this is:

I^2*t = k^2*A^2

"I^2*t" is proportional to the energy let-through of the protective device
       I - fault current, A
       t - fault duration, S

"k^2*A^2" is proportional to the energy withstand of the cable
        k - adiabatic constant
        A - cable cross-sectional area, mm2
