Milestones

1986 – beginnings
G. Merx und R. Diem relocated their electronic company (now: MD Elektronik) from Buchbach to Waldkraiburg. They decided to found a trading company for cables not used in their manufacturing.

1987 – foundation
MEDI Kabelhandels GmbH is founded as a subsidiary of Merx, Diem & Co. GmbH. Even though the company name could suggest it; medical technic is not the only industrial sector in which we operate. Because MEDI results from the founder´s names Mr. MErx and Mr. Diem.

1989 – development
MEDIs mother company is disposed to Heidenhain- group and MEDI Kabel becomes a separate enterprise. In the beginning there is only a sale existing to the holding but we also started building up a sale structure to new customers. We still have a lot of these customers from the outset; they are convinced of our quality and performance since many years.

1991 - expansion
In order to be closer to the customer a sales office is established in Ingolstadt. It acts successfully until the manager starts her partial retirement.

1994 – milestone
Hans Zacherl was appointed as Managing Director in 1994. He has been with MEDI Kabel since 1987 and has a wide knowledge of the cable sector.

1995 - trade fair kickoff
In order to cultivate the customer relationship, present new products and offer a platform for exchange of experiences, MEDI Kabel started the first participation at a trade fair: "exponet" in Düsseldorf.

since 1998
Start of annual attendance at "electronica" in Munich, rotating with "productronica", two of the world leading electronic trade fairs.

2000 - sales offices
MEDI moves more and more into the focus of customers and establishes further sales offices in Villingen, Heilbronn and Zwiesel. They are integrated into the overall concept in the long term and promote regional as well as emotional proximity to our customers.

2002 – focus on quality
In order to meet the integral focus on quality a process- oriented management system is implemented and the certification of the company according to DIN ISO 9001 is achieved. Our daily work is defined by striving to satisfy the high quality demands of our customers and maintain this high level constantly.

2003 – Export Hungary
MEDI continuously increases the sales performances to Eastern Europe. The cooperation with our distributor in Hungary (www.sigmatrade.hu) who knows the local market and the business habits at best started.

2004 – apprenticeship
MEDI sees it as one of the major social tasks to create apprenticeship training places and educate its own specialists. After an intensive preparation phase the kick-off for the first commercial trainee was on 1st of September 2004. Since then she's busy at MEDI and now even our first contact for the current trainees as Head of apprenticeship. New trainees for wholesale trading and logistics are hired yearly.

2005 – space gets short
Due to the increasing output volume it is necessary to create capacities in all areas. Additional winding machines are purchased for the in-house winding department and a new logistics building improved the situation in the dispatch department.

2008 – export Poland
The sales activities to Poland are expanded, from now on Connect Solutions is an important partner for the Polish business.

2010 – export sales
As the international business highly increases a new sales group especially for export sales is established. At this time the business on Czech markets also increased and we started operating with a competent local sales partner: Microdis.

2013 – expansion
Markus Kep was appointed as managing director in addition to Hans Zacherl.

2014 - change of name
Meanwhile MEDI has an important technical department which is able to offer competent FullService in the sections cable- development and construction. To reveal this wide line-up in the company's name it was changed from MEDI Kabelhandels GmbH to MEDI Kabel GmbH.

2014 – export Spain
We started to cooperate with TC Componentes and together we´re the only supplier for UL wires on the Spanish market, especially for small packing Units.

2015 - new building
Because the existing buildings including all extensions got too small a complete new logistics hall with associated headquarters was built.

09.10.2015 - relocation
Thanks to the active cooperation of all employees, the move to the new building at Daimlerstraße 47 took place within one instead of the planned three days.

08.04.2016 - official opening
New rooms for new duties – under this headline we proudly inaugurated the new location with a great festivity.

May 2017 - 30th 30 years of MEDI Kabel! After one year in our new location there was another great reason for a celebration! We organized the "MEDI Wies´n", which was a private fair at our premises. It was really successful and everybody had a lot of fun.

Statement of companies operational procedure and Quality management


Customer satisfaction is our ultimate ambition, we always attempt to deliver the highest quality. Our computer software and system is getting updated constantly and due to our newly founded technical department, we are capable of considering new situtation ( e.g. new Standards, customer requests, etc ). All data is saved due to lawsuit regulations, so that an complete traceability is guaranteed. Our quality management is according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and certified as well as controlled by BVQI.

Short explanation of the primary companies operations:

    Purchase order processing
    All customer orders are carefully checked on customer datas and Articles (Information on orders, data sheets, etc ). In case of differences or to remove ambiguities we are consulting the customer. Particular specific information is automatically processed, will be saved in customer information data and internal archives.
     
    Inspection of incoming goods
    All incoming goods are inspected with utmost attention. Deliveries from Suppliers without own audited Quality system as well as special customized cables are checked to 100%. Deliveries from certified suppliers are checked randomly. If the goods are without defects, the goods get barcode labeled and stocked. The ROHS-Conformity test and Product-labeling are also done here.
     
    Warehousing and Order Processing
    The storaging in our high-level-rack is done with 'first in - first out'-Principle. We take care of an essential treating of the goods, to prevent any defects (e.g. Pressure mark ). Our computer based order processing is supported by order-sheets , were essential data is listed (e.g. Stranding, Diameter, Packing, Customer Requests). Based on the storaging data the Delivery notes (Delivery notes, Shipment papers, Article-labels)are prepared. The single spool-lengts are also mentioned there. Partial Packing and freight-costs, which eventually arise, are calculated with the actual weight of the goods, terms of shipment are considered.
     
    Shipment
    Our shipping department arranges, checks and controls the deliveries. Before the goods are ready packed, all articles are Barcode scanned and are computer based saved to the respective delivery notes. The order can only be processed, if the delivery note is according to the processed information of our shipping department.
     
    Traceability of Cables and wires and product liability
    All goods get an Barcode-Label (see pictures), following data is archived within the 12digit Barcode.



    MEDI-Kabel-Article-Number, Supplier of the goods (Manufacturer), Delivery note information from supplier, Purchasing conditions (Information to take stock), Delivery date ( from manufacturer to customer ), Delivery packaging, Units of delivery, Name of the incoming goods inspector, Name of the re-spooling worker, Name of the Packing-Worker, Recipient of the goods, Conditions of sale, RoHS Conformity
    Respooled goods get an new barcode-label. Above mentioned information is also mentioned in this labels, referring to the original label. Based on this archived informations we can ensure an complete retraceability of goods as well as an eventual product liability in case of defects or else to be forwarded to our suppliers.

Apprenticeship: Skilled Staff made by MEDI

MEDI Kabel is a medium-sized company which grows in tradition – it's the human being that counts. Our aim is to grow and keep being familiarly at once and therefore we need staff that shares our values. We are successfully educating wholesale merchants and warehouse specialists since September 2004. We usually keep them in employment after they finished their apprenticeship and give them a job that fits their skills and affinities. As a result we meet our social responsibilities, offer a great opportunity to young people and protect our demand for skilled personnel at once. We do not only hire trainees but we're looking for characters who want to be part of our MEDI- team. Because of this we carefully pick our future skilled personnel. In addition to the technical training we also set a focus on soft skills. For example we encourage and challenge responsible behavior, the capacity to accept criticism, the ability to work well in a team and to be reliable. During the apprenticeship our trainees pass through all of the different departments: logistics/ disposition, purchasing, accounting, incoming goods dept., quality dept., dispatch dept., technical dept., stock and sales dept. Furthermore there are periodical technical trainings by our technical professionals, in-house English lessons, examinations preparation and the possibility of an internship in a cable plant for one week to learn about the processes of cable production on site.
