Nexans donates wires and cables valued at 1.08 million yuan to support city of Suzhou to improve public health service joining the fight of the coronavirus outbreak

Paris La Défense, March 11, 2020, Shanghai

Nexans China announces a direct donation to the Suzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with wires and cables worth 1.08 million yuan to facilitate its relocation. In active fighting of coronavirus outbreak under the leadership of local government, Nexans China realized the importance of disease prevention and public health service to local inhabitants, and made the decision of donation.

"At Nexans, we are always very committed to the local communities in which we operate. Suzhou Nexans is one of our most important factories in China and we stand in solidarity with Suzhou and its residents not only at this critical moment, but also in the bright future," said Julien Hueber, Executive Vice President, ISP Business Group. "We strongly believe our responsibility goes beyond simply business and extends to the well-being of the local community," he said.

Nexans China's donation to the Suzhou CDC includes multifarious BV wires for power transmission including flexible wires, Low Smoke Zero Halogen wires, flame-retardant and fire-resistant wires, high-performance wires, together with integrated cabling solutions including 10G optic fiber cables, Cat 6 copper cables and voice system. With broad global experience serving the healthcare industry, Nexans will also provide a reliable total solution to meet the needs of the current emergency as well as flexible future expansions. This will enable the Suzhou CDC to be built into an integrated, innovative and intelligent center that meets international standards and advanced domestic requirements.

After the relocation, the Suzhou CDC will focus on the construction of five core functional areas, including disease control, development research, health education, Suzhou's biological sample bank (National Gene Bank Suzhou), and a standardized training base for public healthcare physicians.

The establishment of an integrated inspection center will enable the sharing of regional public health inspection and testing resources. The construction of the first third-level bio-safety laboratory in southern Jiangsu will help enhance the emergency response capabilities of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and public health emergencies in Suzhou. With the construction of a big data research center for health, and precise people grouping, an accurate delivery of public health services can be achieved. Meanwhile, the expanding of the Suzhou biological sample bank, and the use of the "Precision Prevention Joint Innovation Center" as a platform,  will promote the development of Suzhou's health industry. The construction of national public standardized training bases for healthcare physicians aims to cultivate primary public health professionals. A comprehensive public health experience center and a multimedia health communication center are being constructed to promote the improvement of residents' health literacy levels. Featuring "green and eco-friendly aspects, a traditional garden, and humanistic care", the Suzhou CDC strives to be a disease control beacon, with characteristics of the city.

Liu Fang, director of the Suzhou CDC said:  "Suzhou is located in an important position in the Yangtze River Delta, with a heavy public health workload. In the prevention and control of the coronavirus epidemic, timely detection and efficient treatment of confirmed cases in the province has played a key role for effectively controlling the outbreak. The epidemic was not only a test of the disease control team and our emergency capabilities, but also gave us some new inspiration for the construction of the new CDC. Nexans donated not only millions of cables, but also their advanced experience in integrated cable solutions. We believe that with the joint efforts of everyone, the relocation of the Suzhou CDC will definitely achieve international standards and the future targets."

In the wake of the virus outbreak, Nexans China responded quickly by implementing specific and high-level monitoring and security measures in its Suzhou plant to reinforce the government's policies and ensure the safety and health of all Nexans employees working there. The Suzhou plant officially opened in 2016 and covers an area of 150,000 m², including a floor area more than 63,000 m². The plant employs more than 300 professional technicians and is capable of producing wires and cables for over 1,000 specifications.
