On 1st October, at the IPMA Global Awards Gala at the 31st IPMA World Congress in Mérida, Mexico, Prysmian Group made the podium at the IPMA Global Project Excellence Award.

Founded in 1965, IPMA is a federation of more than 75 Member Associations that every year organises an international competition to promote excellence and recognise teams that display and can prove great achievements in project and programme management. Project Managers, project teams and organisations from all over the world and serving several different industries such as oil & gas, nuclear, infrastructures and financial sectors are called on stage to acknowledge their project management successes.

This is the first year that Prysmian Group has taken part into the competition, and that IPMA received an application from one of the worldwide players in the energy cable systems industry. The Group applied for the "Mega Sized Project" category with the Ostwind 1 CWA offshore wind farm turnkey project. In 2014, the Group was awarded by 50Hertz Offshore GmbH, a subsidiary of the German transmission system operator 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, a contract for the development of a unique submarine cable system to supply smart and green energy to thousands of homes and businesses in Germany. The €800 million project comprises the design, supply and installation of multiple high voltage submarine cable systems, connecting the offshore wind farms to the onshore substation.

"On a yearly basis, IPMA celebrates outstanding project management achievements by nominating and recognising individuals and projects. This global recognition supports individuals, projects and organisations that have achieved exemplary results in project management. Awards applications are evaluated by a group of dedicated assessors and judges based on our global Standards: IPMA ICB and IPMA PEB. Each application has been verified by groups of judges and teams of assessors dedicated in the search for tonights winners. Being nominated as finalist already means recognitions by project management peers. So a huge congratulations to all of you! I am very honoured to welcome you and open the 2019 IPMA Global Awards Gala and recognise the winners and outstanding contributors" – said IPMA President Jesus Martinez Almela at the opening of the Gala.

"Ostwind 1 tells the story of a Project Management turnaround, as Prysmian's project management approach changed after this contract, injecting new expertise and implementing embedded processes and governance," stated Riccardo Fabbri, Head of Project and Contract Management, Projects BU. "Receiving the bronze medal at IPMA is not just a result that will improve our brand image and let us grasp new business opportunities, but it marks the beginning of a never-ending improvement process that will enable us to complete the project delivering ever higher quality standards in the future," Fabbri concluded.

Following an assessment process consisting of a first evaluation step of the Application Report and a 3-day company site visit, during which a group of external assessors inspected our project processes and results thoroughly, the IPMA Global Project Excellence Award ended with the announcement of the winners in accordance with the IPMA Project Excellence Model. The result is clearly consistent with the growing attention IPMA has paid to the value of sustainability in its most recent assessment standards.

Prysmian has been evaluated based on excellence in three dimensions, namely "People & Purpose", "Processes & Resources" and "Project Results", but also in the alignment of these three areas.

This award to Prysmian strengthens the message that Project Managers must take actions in their work and daily life to contribute to a sustainable future starting with the distribution of clean energy worldwide as a priority.
