About us

Elkabel JSC with headquarters in Bourgas is the first Bulgarian company specialized in the production of cables and conductors.
The factory is founded in 1947 on the basis of few small workshops for electro-technical production. Elkabel is spread across an area of 190 thousand m² with built up infrastructure. It is situated near Port Bourgas, Bourgas Airport and the Duty Free Zone. The plant has its own railway line and a connection with E 773 Bourgas-Sofia. The company is going all the way through development and expansion of the production scale to fulfill the growing requirements of the market and the changing needs of the different economy fields. Nowadays Elkabel is the biggest cable manufacturer in Bulgaria and is a well known and respected partner not only in Bulgaria but on the international market as well with production exported to Germany, UK, France, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Cyprus, Egypt, Russia, Ukraine, Uruguay, USA and others. The manufactured cables and conductors comply with the requirements of BDS-EN, BS, VDE, NFC, GOST and others and can be produced according to the customer's special technical request.

Key dates

1950 – 1970
The first workshop starts up for production of conductors. A newly built workshop starts operation for production of flexible cables with rubber insulation. A new workshop is started for low voltage cables with PVC insulation.

1975 – 1886
New workshop is opened for production of telecommunication cables after a project of De Angeli Company Italy. Production of power cables with cross-linked polyethylene insulation starts in accordance with the license and equipment bought from Sumitomo Electric Japan including:
     - Two CCV lines for cross linking in inert nitrogen environment
     - Laboratory equipment for entrance and exit quality control
     - Know-how for production of cables

1995
Elkabel is the first Bulgarian company certified by ISO 9002 and in 2000 recertified by Bureau Veritas Quality International according the requirements of ISO 9001-2000.

1998
Elkabel is the first Bulgarian company privatized through the Bulgarian Stock Market.

2004
In June that year the shares of the company were bought from Shipka Consortium, who is now the major shareholder. The management is carried out on two levels: Supervisory Board and Board of Directors.
